Maintenance and seasonal upkeep

A seasonal maintenance rhythm that protects your home

Small, regular tasks prevent most large repairs. Split the year into four short lists.

Spring

Inspect what winter left behind.

  • Clean gutters and check downspouts drain away from the foundation
  • Look for roof damage from the ground
  • Service the air conditioning system

Summer

Protect exterior surfaces while the weather is dry.

  • Reseal decks and check railings
  • Trim plants back from siding
  • Inspect caulk around windows and tubs

Fall

Prepare for colder months.

  • Service the furnace and replace filters
  • Drain and cover exterior faucets
  • Test smoke and carbon monoxide detectors

Winter

Watch for cold-weather issues inside.

  • Keep an eye out for ice dams
  • Check attic insulation and ventilation
  • Replace HVAC filters monthly during heavy use
